Now you know why I gave up on my frequent postings about the standard of the use of the English language in general usage on the Internet, Sid.

People are happy with making do, and good enough, instead of doing the job properly, all to save a few moments of their time.

Mind you, when 25% of kids leaving Primary School these day can't even read, I guess we are getting by, which seems to be the accepted level.

very patronising post SK, hope you fell better now

im glad you're fighting your corner for "good use" of the english language. but maybe, just maybe, it's not that important on a motorcycle forum? writing a letter, applying for a job i can see why you'd get overheated but for Cliff's sake, a motorcycle forum?

Standards are standard.

Also bad habits are very easy to slip into, and as more and more of what we do is typed, these can carry over to everyday, important stuff.

I thought public forums like this are meant to be more chat based than be gramatically spot on.

If i was writing an essay, or a formal letter then theres obviously things i would do differently, but this is just getting too picky.
Forums are chat based, and im more than happy to completely ignore stupid little mistakes or excessive use of punctuation marks. Why on earth does it matter so much?? (see what i did there,,,)

*sigh*

Dont agree with that at all. I write some very wordy stuff for work at times, to solicitors etc and i make sure they are well written, to the point that i'll email it to a colleague for his view/coreection/input. Thats important stuff right there.
When i come on here its time to chill and relax with like minded easy going people. I'm not on here to impress people with my gramatical prowess.
So i personaly dont "slip" into bad habits from here/work.

In fact at work i use the "auto correct" function in Word to fix my lazy typing. Words i type repeatedly i shorthand for typing and let the software do the work for me. So is that an example of me being lazy or slipping into bad habits...or somone using a tool of choice to make the workload a little easier?

Now somones gonna tell me i'm an idiot for using windows products such as Word too i guess
