Someone just remind me about filters. If I have a +1 filter fitted does it mean I need one more stop of light? Say meter reads f5.6 at 1/125, does that mean I step to f4 1/125 or f5.6 at 1/60? Or whatever combination.

Cheers Johnny. I'll try it and see what happens. It's a simple enough camera to take apart and clean up if things go wrong.

Would you be using it for lens protection or for effect? An idea might be to put it on a lens and try out a few combinations with your digital camera if possible so you can figure out what it does. |

It's a yellow filter and I might have meant -1. Supposed to boost contrast in black and white.

If it's on a camera with TTL metering, won't it compensate automatically?
I lubed the Fed and put it back together. Seems quite smooth now. The Industar 26 is in bits while I dig hardened 60 year old grease out. |

No, Kiev 4. Didn't get round to using it today. I did win a new camera though, its compact and slips easily into my pocket.

What's the new one?
With the filter, I suppose it will darken the image so to compensate, a stop more exposure is needed. I think what you said yesterday sounds right. The fed and lens are done. It needs a film and testing out. |

Yep the "filter factor" tells you how many stops you need to add to the exposure. You can use a lot of different coloured filters with mono, red will give you really dark skies for example, yellow is the de facto for good contrast. A coloured filter also means any aberrations in the lens are negated as you're only focusing a small range of wavelengths, which is much easier for any lens than a whole spectrum.

Getting pretty quiet in here! What are you all up to? For me, not much, busy at work and been chasing after a new (old) mountain bike which I finally snagged. Still got rolls in the Konica RF and Pentax SLR.
