It's a well known fact, that I missed out on the fraction part of the maths syllabus due to being over by a bus. I've never needed to know how to multiply or divide fractions since I left school.

Under the tall trees act - or whatever - a tall tree is 2m, only 6ft6in.
If you're taking action, don't delay or next year's nesting season will stop anything happening until this time next year at the earliest

Hedge trimmings (not so much conifers) make very good compost if shredded first. I've been trimming hedges for the last three weeks over evenings and weekends, two of which belong to the neighbours. Helped them do the tops too even though it's all over their side. On to the last one now, a laurel which needs to be capped down a bit as it's grown madly over the last few years. Since buying a decent pole trimmer the cutting has been easy - the worst bit now is gathering up the trimmings to stuff them through the shredder...

Thankfully I have nice varieties of hedge plant that the wildlife benefits from: golden privet and hawthorn (both planted by me), the aforementioned privet and beech, both of which have several birds nests in them as they're more mature. Maintaining them all does get in the way of riding time though!

My B-I-L planted leylandii along his boundary 'because he wanted a quick hedge' - I explained that leylandii do not stop growing when they reach 6 foot and would go up to 40 foot. He planted them anyway and after a few years and 25 foot his neigbour complained they were blocking his light and invited B-I-L round to see his garden (or not as it turned out) - the foliage had gone about 6 foot over the fence line and turned his garden into a dark tunnel. Cost my BIL best part of a grand to get them cut down and taken away. The other problem is if you ever trim conifers back to brown needles they never green up again, and another one is that conifers are very flammable ( I can remember kids going round setting fire to conifer hedges).

I haven't read the law but always understood that you can cut back anything overhanging your property but must ask the owner if they want the cuttings and offer them the chance, not just lob them over the fence.
I have a nice fairly large ash tree which overhangs the neighbour's garden. Fortunately they like the tree, but every year I cut it back to keep it in check, and always ask them how much they want off it. Some neighbours are not so co-operative.
