Re: Vintage film cameras
I've been looking at a Pentax Spotmatic SP500 today, not to buy though. Someone in town found it in a house they bought and wanted to know if it had any value, so they dropped it off so I could check it out. 28mm and 200mm Prinzflex lenses but the body itself is nice and fully working, and it has a 55mm f2 Super Takumar. Stop-down metering but it's combined with auto-closing aperture; slide the meter switch to turn it on and the aperture closes to whatever it's set at. Once you have your exposure setting you can switch off the meter and the aperture goes to fully open, but closes for shooting like an open-aperture camera. A lot easier to use than I'd expected, knowing it is stop-down. Nice lump, although it makes a sort of rattle when the shutter is fired at or below sync speed. Everything seems to be moving right, perhaps the curtain tension needs adjusting or something.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Apparently the SP500 has the same escapement as the higher end models and still has the 1/1000 speed if you take it past the 500 mark.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Yep, they didn't even put a stop on the knob, just left the paint off! She's going to give it a try when she picks it up, I have plenty of Poundland film to be able to donate a roll.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I might give the older Pentax clan a miss, I didn't really get on with the K1000 (I know I have the KM too) and the are along the same vein. I still need to finish the film in the Zenit 3m and a few others. At least the weather is perking up for this long weekend. Off to the Flying Legends air show at Duxford and Harry Potter studio your in July, and Clacton air show in August. I'll probably take my FM with me for Duxford as well as my D5200. Oh, and off to the car boot sale tomorrow.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I wouldn't swap it for one of my others but it's nicer than the old Zenit E I used to have. The Super Takumars are said to be excellent, shame they're only M42.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Anything has to be nicer than a Zenit! Weighty, but charming in their own way. Especially the swirly bokeh from the Helios.
