  • Skimbleshanks, our cat, has absconded because we have Sooty in the house and we're all missing him.

How does that expression go, "it never rains unless it pours". It sounds like the dog is distressed and missing its owner, not that it's any consolation to you.

Anyway...first world problem..."Ad blocker" blocker. MCN is one of an increasing number of sites that won't let you read without turning off your ad blocker. I just "un bookmark them" and don't bother going back.
Tricky one isn't. The sites need ads to survive but they go too far and batter us with nonsense so we install an blocker. There has to a sensible middle ground but meantime we walkaway.

I wish i could install a trailer blocker on the TV, especially the BBC.

do adverts even work these days due to being bombarded with adverts everywhere we look.

i know that i personally dont recognise them or if i do i forget them instantly afterwords. i do however remember the old ones with catchy slogans/tunes.

"all because the lady loves milk tray"
"fry's turkish delight"
"thank crunchy its friday"

however did these adverts actually make me buy the products... no. i have never bought a product due to seeing an advert for it. have i ever impulse bought a product due to it "sticking out" at point of sale like shelves on supermarkets or shop counters. yes

advertising is big money but its the advertisers that are conning the companies into using it.

Same here, in fact more likely to boycott a product.

My pet hate with adverts is the songs, especially acoustic covers with a husky voiced maiden.

Iplayer & catch up Tv are the solution, no adverts or fast forward through them

If I am watching live TV and can't fast forward I just mute the sound - IMHO many of the adverts used to be better and cleverer than some of the programs, but not any more - the politically correct restrictions on what they can and cannot say have just made ads so boring now....

Yep. The mute button gets used a lot here if I'm watching live TV.
