Re: Vintage film cameras
I seem to be a bit of a camera pusher around here.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Popped into the local re-use shop today and picked up a likely candidate for the IR conversion. A slightly rough Panasonic TZ7. It probably got junked because the live image looked all pixelated and the zoom was limited, also when turning it on the lens would extend, retract and extend again. A quick dig around the settings found it was in zoom macro mode. All sorted and working well, just need a usb lead for it. I also picked up a Canon EF 35-70 box and on opening it I found an EF 50mm f1.8 inside. I have an EOS but it's a bit bulky. Can anyone recommend something a bit smaller and lighter but with good features?

Re: Vintage film cameras
Damn, damn, damn. Someone let me have a play with their Fuji X100 yesterday. Manual focus, optical viewfinder, shutter speed dial on top. It's almost a digital rangefinder. Want one!
Another £1 max selling fees weekend on ebay coming up. I plan to downsize a little if I can. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Not at all. Still very happy with the EM10. It's a keeper, especially now as I've got a range of lenses for it. The Fuji was just a totally different user experience and a fixed lens only. I couldn't compare them directly but I don't think there's much difference in size between the Fuji and the Olympus with the 20mm pancake.

Re: Vintage film cameras
With film camera prices on the up I'm pretty sure you could clear some out and fund a Fuji.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I've got a Fuji X30, fixed zoom lens and no dial like that but similar otherwise. Feels like a real camera, if you will indulge me that. AF modes or manual focus via a lens ring, with a second lens ring for zoom. Roller wheel on the back, so depending on the mode, that and the (non-zoom) lens ring can do different things like adjusting aperture etc. in AF modes. And a viewfinder, dear God, how could I resist? The zoom ring always zooms, but is also used for on/off by zooming the lens into the body. Usual billion features but great lens, a lot of features are just a press or two away, and you can reprogramme some of the buttons or the ring/wheel. I think the only thing I would change is that it's "only" 12MP. Never thought I'd like a digi that much! Admittedly my main experience with them is point and shoot, or the odd over-complicated DSLR that someone would shove in your hands.

Re: Vintage film cameras
The X100 was very similar. It looked like a real camera, had dials for shutter speed and ev compensation, aperture control ring on the lens, optional manual focus and a rangefinder style viewfinder. A very different feel to a digital SLR
