Next year just make it about you and Mrs Bibs. Maybe then you two can enjoy it without the stress. Sometimes being "selfish" is the way to go.

Ditto that. Sometimes you have to look after number 1.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Out for a walk today with Lady Poppy, Monkey and her boyfriend plus F-i-L. Lady P and her dad (mobility challenged now he's in his eighties) were going to join us on the the hunt for the first geocache at which point they were planning to "rest" in the pub while we hunted for two more. Despite the note on the door saying it was open from midday the pub doors remained shut and we got called back from our hunt before we'd had chance to look for the second cache... Very annoying. Bit of a wasted morning. At least there is plenty of booze left over so I'm going to get over it in a liquid way.

Try again today and remember the old saying "if at first you don't succeed give up and go to the pub"

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
have you ever thought that your son just does not want to talk to you?
if my sons want to talk to me they will or in the eldest's case pick up the phone or come and visit or ask me to visit. until such times i leave them alone to get on with their life. i'm their father not their friend. |

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I have a son and daughter aged 39 & 40 and I last saw them face to face 3 years ago (they both live 2 hours drive away from me). There is no animosity etc., just that we live independent lives, and when we do get together, we have a good time together. We do exchange occasional random messages through Messenger. It's the way I was brought up and the way my children were: once they were adults, left home and working, we were no longer in each others pockets. I also have an elder brother who lives in New Zealand and two younger brothers. One lives four hours away and we rarely communicate; I last saw him at Dad's funeral 10 years ago. My other brother lives in tha same town as my children and, again, I last saw him 3 years ago. That's just the way my family are.
