Yeah I think what YC means is don't disturb the joint between the front pipe and the rest of the system. That's got a Teflon type gasket and it's a hell of a job to get the two parts of the exhaust pipe back together. You can get the whole system off in one go. I found it easier with the can still attached. Gave me extra leverage. I changed the front gasket in the head as a matter of course as I didn't want to faff around if it did leak. Also be aware that you can't even see the gasket really until you start to prise it out with a screwdriver or whatever.
