Because they are an absolute scream and will teach you more in 10 minutes than you will learn in 10 days being bored $hitless on a CBR125.

It's a sight safer being capable of keeping up with traffic too.

The other thing about the RS125, its not very easy to ride. Its got a tall first gear and a very peaky power delivery and feck all steering lock... something less racey might be more confidence inspiring to ride.

I had a YBR125 for a couple of months before i did my test and it was a good bike, light and easy to ride, it was a little bit slow though only got 65 out of it.

Good first bike though, cheap to buy and run (100mpg). Bought it for 1250 with 600miles on 05 and sold it 1150 with 1500 miles on 3 months later. Here is a pic of it.

I had the Yamaha YZF R125 but only had it a couple of months before I got rid of it and bought the Ninja 250R.

The Yamaha seat position was soooo high, I had to have it lowered 40mm!! Once it was lowered it was great, however, on passing my test I did want a bit more power, hence the move to the Ninja 250R which falls under the 33 bhp restriction

Take your full test, get over the 125cc & buy a bigger more comfortable bike!
Self & son (17) went to Blackburn on Tuesday, intensive course, both came away with full license on Friday. OK, boy is restricted to 33BHP, but can get something larger for more comfort with the gizmo in to comply with the law, and would be cheaper than new 250 ninja.......just a thought.

Ride magazine did an article on the most popular 2nd hand bikes- and said the ninja 250's were really sought after.

If you don't mind me asking, what school did you attend for this course? and how much was it? How much experience did you have beforehand?
