also, how safe did you feel? Ive been toying with the idea of renting a bike out there, but even in the car it just dosent feel safe. random driving and a lack of bikes on the road dosent inspire confidance.

I would definitely say go for it!!!

No idea where exactly you've been, but I never felt any less safe than I do riding here in Leeds. We came across many ,many bikers, both South African and tourists. You could always tell the South Africans as most ride in shorts and T- shirts If I went back to SA again, I'd feel confident enough to rent a bike and bugger off on my own. One of the guys we rode with on the first day did just that as does a large number of other bikers.

Ive been all over SA, I was born there and go back often. I think group riding might be the best way then. Ive done off roading and that was ok.

Yep, if you are worried about safety, then I guess group riding is the best option for you. Don't go off the beaten track and don't ride at night and you should be absolutely fine.
