Payments would be less than £250 month. The next person you see on one could be a dustman or a doctor. You probably can't even buy a Ford Focus for 12 grand and 'normal' people with 'normal' jobds buy them don't they?

There can't be many 'hobbies' in life where owning the ultimate (or near as damn it to it) is within reach of so many if they want it.
One small downside, you can't put the kids, or the dog, or any shopping worth doing on an S1000RR, which, although it isn't a BAD thing per se, may fail to pass the other-half test. And it may cost just a little bit to insure. And if you're going to have a bike that fast you NEED decent leathers and helmet. And then the other half will want a handbag/shoes/set of golf clubs/leather sofa as well. So make that 20000. Maybe 1/60th of the average man's lifetime earnings. For me, it isn't going to be THAT much more fun than an SV on the road. But yes, if you really have to have it, it is feasible.

Bikes have increased heavily in price over the last year, but like its been said, they are within touching distance of pretty much anyone if they are willing to finance. 2nd hand Exotica is even cheaper. So many bikes, so many opportunities and for so little money.

If I am not mistaken, wasnt there a hefty rise in the cost of bikes around '92, '93? Over the years in real terms, they have become cheaper as salaries have increased. In a few years time, I guess bikes will become cheaper again as the £ strengthens and salaries increase again.

KTM next on my list I think....

Yeah, it's achievable, but if you can afford it you can't ride remember...

I hope that because the majority of the increase in cost has been due to the exchange rate with the yen, that when that settles down prices will too. Remains to be seen though

I thought the rise in prices was because bikes had been underpriced for a long time and now they're just catching up with where they should be. Bike had some graph showing that the prices of bikes had increased by far less than inflation because the manufacturers were just absorbing the costs.

Read a review of it in Performance Bikes magazine...it made me want one. They pinned it against an R1 around a track in spain, and all the opinions said that the BMW was far better in comparison.

You can have as much fun on a £1000 bike as a £12000 bike.I often think that people buy super expensive bikes like MV's and such as a posing factor statement. If you can afford it all good and well but it doesn't enhance your standing in my books.I prefer to gauge the people rather than the bike.

That's a pretty sweet vid. Would love to be let loose on a track like that.

S1000RR sounds good, it would be definitely on a consider list once out a year and there are some low mileage 2nd hand ones about. But I'm not looking for a thou until I can get my bike nearer its limits, a good 30 secs to come off per lap, then I can push something bigger more. Although more OOoommphh up Kesselchen and on the run to Schwadenkreuz would always be welcome.
