There is also compensation available from the uninsured drivers compensation thingy for exactly this reason, to compensate for claims from uninsured drivers.

My wife was in a RTC while in a taxi in the 90's, the driver of the vehicle that rear ended her taxi gave false details but she still got compensation.
She was off work for about 6 weeks with back pain due to it and was examined by 2-3 independant consultants appointed by the insurance companies.
It took about 18 months for her claim to be paid out, just stick with it.
