For those that have a machine and learn to maintain it, fix the basics, clean it and look after it will slowly realise it is the most reliable. To those that dont .... Well it could be any bike .... They are exposed machines that run under extreme conditions. Expect them to need tlc.

Thanks Col, but I leave all the breaking and ebay stuff to the guys at Bedford shop now I run the Cambridge branch. I know the boss likes ebay because it's a simple and cheap method of selling parts and we can keep track of things very easily. Also, we can do postage labels online via a hyperlink to the Royal Mail and Paypal sites. This alone saves a hell of alot of time and costs no more as a service and is much quicker than standing in a queue at the Post Office getting packages weighed and paying for each parcel as they are stamped up.

When you have 30 to 40 items a day going out time is an important factor.

I know boss-man won't sell it whole for reasonable money because I tried to buy it myself but he wanted way over the odds considering the age etc, he'll break it for far more than he offered it to me.

Also at work I deal with warranty claims for Kawasakis - electronics woes are the least of our problems. I've had to replace one ABS pump on a 1400GTR that worked but kept causing the ABS light to stay lit and a few coil sticks on ER6s that ha corroded internally causing the case to split. I wouldn't class either as electronics; in the case of the ABS pump it's a mechanical item and the coil sticks are more electrical than electronic. Aside from those I don't recall ever having to replace anything electronic.

Seriously, I have boxes of CDI units and all manner of electronics sitting around for a fair few very popular post 2000 models and we can't shift them even at give away prices cos they are never needed.

Good morning all.

Indeed the components themselves are pretty reliable. It's the bits between them that aren't!
The gauge of wire used would insult a two bob Taiwanese radio, & the lack of waterproof connectors, which leads to corrosion, can, cause reliability issues.

Cheers.
