And that's great. You can say that without fear that I'll come round and threaten or attack you. That's worth preserving don't you think?

For some reason the BBC chose to make a point of pointing that out. But then, in fairness, yes I do sometimes judge a book by it's cover. I have been known to cross the road to avoid someone I don't like the look of when walking alone. I've even got my wife to get off a tube train earlier than intended for a similar scenario. I call that street savvy, it's defensive and hurts no one. If you come across someone who says they never stereotype - check for stigmata. |

Of course you don't. You can prove someone guilty of planning a terrorist attack when it's still in preperation, by finding them with plans, or hardware. Just like you can catch a shoplifter after they fill their pockets but before they've run off. The presumption of innocence doesn't make prevention in the least bit harder.

I watched some of the coverage on this on BBC News 24 yesterday. Very funny as they struggled to fill air time and invent news. Female reporter standing outside New Scotland Yard with a look of unparalleled seriousness on her face 'And in the last half an hour there have been a great many police officers entering this building.'
Yes dear, it's the f*cking police headquarters. |

It has a bit too much politics in it I think, but the points about the effectiveness of the device are pretty much spot on, as anyone who's seen these blow up will confirm. They can be very dangerous on a small scale since the cans can throw themselves around at massive speed, and that'd likely kill you if you got hit anywhere important, and of course you get a lot of flame and heat, but it wouldn't, for instance, knock down a wall. They could have done more damage just finding a busy city street and running people down.

Another Reg link - the author is an ex bomb disposal bod and has written some really interesting articles, and as an ex bomb disposal bod I afford him a lot more respect and time than politicians telling us to be more afraid - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/07...iocy_outbreak/ |
