The factory in my Urban Decay entry is on East Richardson Street, behind the shops on Desborough Road. It has been altered several times from looks of things, the white paint on an "external" wall, several old roofline marks. The front is now held up by props and there is strapping above to stop the brickwork falling apart. I could have squeezed past the barriers to get closer but it really does not look very safe. Shame, as we've lost so much of the industrial heritage of the town - building the new Sainsbury's lost us several sites and little old warehouses of this era. You're right about the part the furniture workers played in the war to make some of the earlier planes. Parts for the Mosquito and the Tiger Moth were made in Wycombe and I seem to recall there is an info board about the links to De Havilland in one of the two Weatherspoon pubs we have in town. The early planes were made from wood so the furniture skills were very useful. While in history mode, the Broom and Wade works that normally made compressors and air tools was used to make tanks. I worked at the site for a year (dreadful boss so did not stay) but alas, like so many others, it is there no more.

Photo Comp - Chat Thread
Good info, thanks.
The building by the railway station was going to be demolished but someone realised that it was build by Brunel. Oh, don't suppose you remember the chequers, on the corner near the pepperpot (and antelope pub), facing the church near the entrance to the octagon? I friend of the family tried hard to save it and all the 17th century graffiti but list that battle. I was offered a job by Parker knoll (oh, might have been ercol actually) but turned it down because I'd got the highest marks anyone had got in the tests. Whilst I'm confident of my abilities I know I'm not anything special. |

The building by the station is the original broad gauge station.
Don't recall the Chequers but it may well be in a book of old Wycombe pubs we've got somewhere in the bookcase. Ercol were just off the A40 to the East of HW. I remember going into their showroom once but being dismayed at the prices which were out of my reach as a newly employed graduate.

Assuming that's your surname, I'd say yes. However, you'll likely be needing a fit bird or two in the family if you plan on winning this month's competition.

Re: Photo Comp - Chat Thread
Oh you swine Mister_C, I'd been aiming to go there for my star trails shot (possibly with a little light painting) I'll still go there one clear evening but I'm gonna pick another for the competition now
Nice shot BTW! My aim for the year is to only enter the photo competition when I've taken a shot FOR the competition, to try and get me out more with the camera. Some cracking entries already in the first one of the year!

It would be a cracking place for star trails. I need to read up & practice mine one evening if we get a clear night. I've got an idea of where, just worried about standing in Crewe town centre for a couple of hours one night, I'll probably end up getting mugged lol
