Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I gripe because am too old to be doing this sort of thing.
So my son got hit £700 to get his car through the MOT. prompted me to lift the van and look what is needed for mine in 10 weeks. So I have condemed the strut tops, a CV joint gaitor. The rest looks ok. Strut tops are a pain, remove struts, remove rusted tops and replace. Benefit is I need to free the hub to do this, so free to replace gaiter at the same time. One day the van will have to go. But if each time it costs me less thatt a hundred to get a ticket it don't exactly owe me. I just object to paying someone to do jobs on the grounds that I don't like doing them anymore. Guess that my gripe is : - I don't like being a lazy b'stard

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Which foods are good/bad for me? I think I've lost track:
1) Coffee - it's switched so many times in the last 20 years but I think the magic 8 ball now says OK. 2) Eggs - "go to work on an egg" they said in the 70s (but you'll die of high cholesterol in the 80s), "no you won't" they said in 1990, as of today: "you will" (glad that's sorted). 3) Red wine: that's a definite: yes/no/maybe. 4) cow's milk (I think that's ok if skimmed - but where's the fun in that?) 5) chocolate - makes you fat, gives you acne . Nope, it helps circulation and lifts your mood (or does it?) 6) how many fruits/veg: 5 in UK, 7+ in Japan/Canada, 5 Fruit/2 Veg in Oz, 10 in France (Mon Dieu!) 7) Butter (who knows?) it was good, then bad, now good (I think) and on the flip side - reverse that for margarine. |

http://healthimpactnews.com/2012/put...d-cholesterol/ The thing to do is, eat a bit of everything and not too much of anything and you will be fine.. ( the golden mean ), lots of specialists now are seeing reversal of diabetes and great health benefits from eating more fat, as well as good weight loss - the low fat diet has apparently been the cause of rocketing diabetes in western countries. There is an awful lot of cholesterol needed in human brain to build cell walls and nerves. My dad ate every bit of fat he could get his teeth into ( he was very active though with an outdoor job) and he never had heart problems.. https://www.drperlmutter.com/brain-needs-cholesterol/ In sunlight the body makes vitamin D out of cholesterol. we have been fed a pack of lies since the mid 1960's about cholesterol and hearts disease - but it will take a long time to reverse all the wrong thinking. Mass medicating people with statins ( very profitable for drug companies ) is causing all sorts of other health problems..

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Deadly pathogens are not limited to farmed / domesticated meat.
Every piece of meat has various levels of pathogens in it, in Australia Kangaroo meat ( wild animals ) has to be cooked very carefully as it contains many things that can make you ill / kill you. The present craze for burgers cooked medium or rare is particularly stupid, pathogens are more numerous on the outside of meat, by mincing meat to make burgers the outside of the meat gets to be on the inside of a burger, and if not cooked through they remain alive and deadly. Normally pathogens on the outside of say a steak are cooked and killed first so not so bad to leave centre of steak slightly under-cooked.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Last June the mot mechanic mentioned my rear pads are a bit low. So the other day whilst ordering a new air filter I also ordered new pads.
Today I took the rear caliper off to check wear since June and guess what, yep, loads of material still left. Given my low annual mileage I can see my new pads sitting on the garage shelf for another year. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
