Turned around at the first intersection and came back home.

Apparently have injured the ankle again on the broken leg (from 16 months ago) that I'm still recovering from.
I knew it was swollen but didn't realize I wouldn't be able to bend it far enough down to get under the shifter.
I managed to get it back home using the edge of the sole on the side of the shoe to upshift.
Guess Spring will have to wait a few more weeks.
That's a bit of a bummer Bill. It's the worst when you're all psyched up for a run out and it falls apart like that.

Is it the actual bone still playing up, or is it now a muscular/soft tissue thing?

Also a useful skill to learn when you drop it and break off the peg.

Other options being riding it everywhere in first. It redlines at well over 50mph

Have used my heel for up- and down shift before now when I have developed sudden tendinitis when out on a long ride. Served me right for getting a wiggle on and changing gear a lot while a bit tensed and focused. Lesson for me was take it easy and enjoy the ride more.

Mend well Bill.

Another option is to get a Fixapeg as crafted by DavieSV of this parish.
Mine is so good I've never had a broken gearchange or rear brake titty in 10 years. Carry it everywhere.

Foresight. So out of fashion these days.

3,300 miles and the rear Bridgestone is already on the wear limit.

That's the advantage of 115 bhp, you get the ability to try out lots of new tyres.

I'm on 11.5k miles on my AL7 rear tyre with an estimated 4-5k miles remaining, but you'd beat me to the pub (actually, most people would beat me to the pub and I'll have a Warsteiner, please).

I might have 115 bhp but I probably don't use most of it and I don't think I'd describe my riding style as 'aggressive'. Disappointed in the life of these.
I don't know how you get so much life out of an SV tyre. My average was about half that.

I think braking and accelerating causes most of the wear on tyres. Some riders are just more aggressive than others. Also if your journey or commute includes a lot of stop/start such as city work then i guess you can expect higher wear.
