Can't believe I've put the heating on this afternoon!

My CH is controlled by a Tado smart controller like Hive. The target temperature today is 21 degrees and Tado switched it on at 8am for 45 minutes and again at 6pm. Still not reached 21deg. It has been pi$$ing down here in South Norfolk since 1pm.

Tado is connected to the internet and monitors outside temperatures. If it is sunny, as it was this morning, it delays switching on to give the sun a chance to warm the house through our east facing french doors.

Sweltering in the heat.
I'd gladly trade having the heat on every day to be rid of this scorching hell.

Cold and wet here after some sun to warm the house a bit this morning. Now the Tado switched the CH on at 6pm and still going. Temperature currently at 20.9c.

Did manage to get a dry ride into Norwich and mostly back. Started to rain as I rode into my village.

I'm in the middle of having a fireplace removed and an in-wall gas fire installed. The installer has severed an electrical cable which he says shouldn't have been there and says it's not his responsibility and it's up to me to get an electrician to fix the problem. I'm not happy.

... edit: and pay for it.

Surely they should have used a cable detection gizmo first? They broke it they should pay. That's why they have liability insurance.

That's what I thought and the electrician that came round agreed. I have emailed HETAS to see if this is acceptable/usual from one of their registered installers. Haven't mentioned any names yet.
The electrician's bill is already £150 and he has to come back tomorrow.

Don't know what he means by 'cable should not have been there' before even drilling a hole for a plastic screw fixing I use one of those gizmos to check for pipes and cables, IMHO this is not acceptable behaviour for a tradesman. My mate trains gas fitters at local college and his opinion of most of his students is unprintable - he says they get a certificate to allow them to work with gas and sign off their work but he says he wouldn't trust most of them to connect a garden hose to a tap...

Where exactly was the cable? The only thing I can think he means is that the cable was routed outwith a safe wiring zone. Was there a electrical connection point in the fireplace or a socket nearby? If so, the correct wiring zone would be a straight line from that point either horizontally or vertically. If he blazed through one of those zones then it is definitely his fault and you should forward the bill to him.
