Re: Vintage film cameras
I managed to sort out the donor camera, the issue was the winder much needing a drop of oil. All sorted now! I'll probably move it on at some point as I really don't need four XE-1s! I've noticed the thread for the wind lever retaining cap is letting go on my second spare XE1, it's stripped a little so won't tighten up properly. That one needs a prism too so will probably end up as a purely spares camera.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Four XE1s is definitely overkill but worth keeping a spare. Induced paranoia meant I checked the viewfinder on mine, the OMs too, and the prisms all look OK, no deterioration.
I've no idea what your new toy is though. Territory I dare not get into. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Thing is, when you start noticing an issue with the prism it's too late and the damage is done. It would need preventative maintenance to sort. The project is a Voigtlander Bessa 1, I've had the rear element out already and thankfully someone has attempted to fix the shutter with oil which means the rust is sitting on a skim of oil and wiped right off. The blades 3rd are a different matter...

Re: Vintage film cameras
Man I didn't realise how picky OM4s can be with their batteries. The OM4 was acting up after being serviced but before sending it back I tried a brand new set of batteries and all is good. How is everyone holding up? My SV is going in next month for new tyres (ones on there are 8 years old and starting to perish), chain and sprockets and MOT. Hopefully ready for when they let us loose! I've got Contimotions on there at the moment but I'm having them replaced with Pirelli Angle GT2s.
Just started watching some of this guys videos, a lot of street photography, warning for language! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q5ZqfNxXnU Sent from my Xperia using Tapatalk

Re: Vintage film cameras
Yaay. You finally got them back. If the OM4 is anything like the OM2sp it'll eat batteries. Make sure you either remove them or turn it off when it's not in use or they drain fast. SR44s last longer.
I've got Angel Gt 2s on the XSR. Only done a couple of thousand miles on them but they've been good and have minimal wear so far. Because of Covid, my MOT was extended to mid-January but I never bothered as I won't ride in mid-winter. Tax is due at the end of this month but I can't do that without an MOT so I have to decide whether to do that or sorn the bike and wait until April. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Apparently the circuit board fitted is a later revision with the improved battery drain so hopefully it'll be OK. I was really confused at first as I couldn't really see anything through the viewfinder but realised that it has diopter adjustment. Apparently they are going to be easing restrictions from next month so hopefully they will allow us to ride! How well do they grip?

Re: Vintage film cameras
I've not ridden the Angels in the wet but dry grip seems fairly stable. but I don't do crazy lean angles.
The diopter on the OM4 is a big plus. Mine has a plain screen but with the diopter, focus is no problem. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
I've got a split screen in mine, I swapped it out from a dead OM2. I'm going to be packing up a box of cameras to send to Rob, he offered to fix my Pentax SV, fix and convert my 35RC to LR44 and service a silvernose Olympus 50/1.8. I've got a dead Nikon FM carcass that he needs a part from. I've also just ordered a leatherette kit for my Pen EP1 from Aki Asahi, too much silver for my liking and trying to improve it's looks. I've also got a handful of films to send off to Snaps. A bit optimistic I know, but I've just booked weekend camping tickets for the MCN Festival of Motorcycling at Peterborough, just something to look forward to after all this covid nonsense.
