Hope Mass isn't feeling too put-upon... it's a mistake many people have made. I'll never know how my 125 didn't explode after I ran it down to 300ml of oil (probably rode it like that for hundreds of miles as well... When they drained the oil, you could see all the little bits of engine in it )

Mr Mass,

I didn't mean to sound harsh, and I don't think I did. I am very sorry that you're in the situation that you find yourself in.

It's a hard lesson in motorcycle maintenance.

It doesn't help that the sv doesn't have a centre stand and if you don't have a paddock stand keeping the bike upright and getting a decent view of the window can be a pain in the ****.

Default Paddock Stand

Not wishing to go off the subject - but for the cost, a p/stand is a must for me. Makes servicing the chain a sinch (sp) and of course there's the "oil level" check. Anyway, I hate the way the SV seems to lean over so much on the side stand - although it is secure it looks so insecure and when its on the side stand that's how I feel !!!!

Sorry, why is the oil hard to check? It's not hard to hold it upright acurately.

I have to agree, hardly a difficult task.

Also checking the oil level on a paddock stand is not a good idea as it raises the back of the bike and gives an incorrect oil reading in the site glass window.

I think i prefer the Yamaha way with an oil level
indicator instead of an oil pressure light.

Better to be informed that its time to add oil than
be informed that it's to late(when you see the light)

How often do a modern engine brake down on the
grounds of low oil pressure?(when oil level is ok)

Maybe a combined function would be the way to go,an
oil warning light that blinks when the level is low and constant
light when pressure is low?

(ok,it's a budget bike,forgot that )
