Re: Bargain Alerts Thread!!!
Not really a bargain per se, but in case it's useful to anyone, I've got a generic 10% off code for M&P.
PC10D2020 Used today so it works. There's no end date printed on it, and it "excludes sale items".

Notice that socket set is 'unisex'... Have to say it is cheap but I hate those double hex sockets that hardly touch the corners of nut of bolt head...

A bargain, if you like rounding bolt heads.

Re: Bargain Alerts Thread!!!
I have an, err..."large" selection of good quality European and Japanese tools/socketry, with both 12pt and 6pt sockets. I've never had an issue with 12pt providing the tolerance is decent and the bolt/nut is clean and not already butchered. Even badly rusted/seized stuff will tend to break the bolt before the socket lets go and rounds the head of the bolt (clean is important - take a moment to scrape away any rust or grime that might cause the socket to ride up and/or not engage properly).
Most ring ends of spanners are 12 point, and most modern 6-point sockets are flank drive anyhow so only engaging a small surface. I'm sure I saw a test of 6-pt Vs 12-pt and the conclusion was there was little if any difference in the amount of torque you could apply before failure.

Re: Bargain Alerts Thread!!!
Couldn't find the article, so for fun I've stuck an M10 grade 8.8 bolt in the vice and used a Facom 12pt and 6pt socket (Facom because I have both and the tolerance feels about the same), size 17mm. I went to 130nm and no perceptible difference. No marks on either tool and no damage/deformation to the bolt head. I think that's more than double the typical torque for that size/grade bolt.
I appreciate it's not scientific, but hopefully at least suggests that a 12pt doesn't spell doom on that virtue alone.
