I cant recall ever being embarressed to be a "Biker".
I have been embarressed by (the actions of) other people who ride bikes, but then again I've been embarressed by people who have never been near a bike.

I guess what it boils down to is:-

.... a d!ck head is a d!ck head whether they ride or not, and some times it is embarrassing to be the same spicies as some of the d!ck heads I've been unfortunate enough to meet.

Well I have been riding less than a year, the SV is my first big bike if you want to put it like that I love riding.

Have ever felt embarrased no not casue I'm biker at all, I did feel embarrased when I stalled coming out out of the yard in front of like 5-10 other people who all laughed who probally told everyone else. My lid hid the shade of red I was

I have been called a power ranger before as well by ppl, who cares. What I don't think is great is the people who are on the sports bikes, and rip through towns and villages which put peoples back up. But if your acting a **** and get done don't moan about it. There are idiots everywhere, i work with some right ********s it would nice not to have too but they are everywhere and some happen to ride bikes, fact of life.

People are obseivce about it putting lables on things and people, I just a ride a bike casue its fun.

Or any other bike I assume?

I agree, it's irresponsible riding that can be embarrassing but this is because people believe you are a WBA i.e. you must be with him or like him if you are both on bikes, even if you are not. But generalisation like that really do not worry me.

Ah, but not if you ride a "Girls bike" SV650. That just means you have a huge appendage and need to compensate for nothing!

I've been riding bikes since I was 11 years old, had a FS1E on my 16th and graduated to an RD250 on my 17th, never had more than 2 days since then without a bike at my disposal. Right at this moment I own 7 bikes of different styles, sizes and makes. I've worked in the bike trade on and off for over 25 years and built race bikes, spannered scooters, moped, bikes and all manner of powered 2-wheelers and bought and sold bikes to pay the mortgage. I've toured, commuted, off-roaded and done trackdays. My life revolves around bikes, in whatever shape they come.

If anyone ever called me a 'proper biker' I'd be highly offended, even though the title is probably more deserved by my sort of motorcyclist than any other. 'Proper biker' round here means the guy drives a Transit van everywhere and has a blinged up 1500cc cruiser that does 200 miles a year sitting in his garage. He wears jeans everywhere, a side zipped leather jacket with fringe tassles, is heavily tattooed, has a beard and listens to rock music from the 70s. He's not my kind of person.

It's this stereotype of 'bikers' that I have fought against for the whole of the time I've been riding, not the power-ranger image conscious types - they came along only in the last 10 years.
A proper biker in my definition is any decent person who loves motorbikes and loves riding them, regardless of what they look like or whether they ride an AJS, a 400/4, a Harley, an SV, a BMW, or a Gixxer thou. That doesn't even mean they have to own a bike at the time. A biking mate of mine from school and I were both without bikes for a long time, but thats still what we talked about every time we met.

At the end of the day, you have to use some term to describe people who ride motorbikes, so I don't worry too much about what that term is.
