It is a small world, I used to be based at Kinloss, nr Forres, not too far from Elgin, winters could be a bit hard work, part of my job was to keep the runways clear of ice and snow in the winter so the nimrods could operate search and rescues missions, one night it was so cold the diesel was freezing up, we even had a tanker with an aircraft jet engine strapped to the front used for clearing large sheets of ice off the runway, quite a site , fantastic part of the world though, making me want to go back now

I skirted around Forres on my way to Elgin, and my ex brother in law used to be based at Kinloss on the nimrods. His wifes brother was also there but was sadly killed when the Nimrod went down in Afghanistan a couple of years ago.

The A96 is a nice stretch of road between Nairn and Elgin.... quite open and I think I only counted one speed camera. Well I hope to god there was only one lol

WOW! Just read the epic tale, and I'm so jealous, I'd love to do something like that on my own. And Scotland too, my brother lived in Rhu, by Helensburgh and I fell in love with the area.

When's the next trip then?!

I was thinking about Ireland next year maybe..... If anybody fancies doing a girly long weekend or two before then tho I`d be up for it. I`m quite happy to go to Scotland again and I could stretch it to a week

We can see how many other girls would be interested and then decide on a location that suits us all? I`ve got some time off in early September if anyone can manage that?

Excellent pics and write up

And yeah, Loch Carron from that point with the right conditions does take your breath away, I have a very similar pic from a few years back

An easy way to reduce the amount, ditch the extra T's and fleeces and just take one or two sweat shirts, you're only likely to wear them whilst riding and only you knows how many times you wore the same top and the addition of a waterproof top also gives you one more layer just in case
