I bought mine 18 months old with 8k on, its never got over 38mpg i dont think, mine is the 75hp TDi.
Its now done ~40k but still going good, albeit i think my water pump bearings are getting dry and squealing a bit.

I often find a more powerful engine uses less fuel.
