Fair enough, but surely it just dims down your headlight? Or doesnt it really have an effect when they are on

Nope. No dimming of light that I've noticed..
And mauler, not even a tiny bit  there's lots and lots of holes in it.. So I doubt it'll do much protection.That's what YC was onabout getting all the fly guts from it, cos there's loads of tiny little holes for the brains of the fly's to fill... Sent from that magical device in my pocket.
