Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Seeing as all bikes have a serial/chassis number - there should be a quick way to check with the Police if a bike has been marked as stolen?
Personally, i'd not touch anything unless someone could prove they own it receipt/transactional proof -eBay/Gum,tree etc.

putting your trust in a company that have been in business for a long long time to do a job.


sent a truntable bearing in to be serviced as it was a little bit noisy and it has come back worse then when it went in and they have not replaced what i asked then to do. they are the only people who can refurbish this bearing as it has a captive sapphire bearing so you can imagine how much it was to be fixed.


this really furks me off and people wonder why i have trust issues when it comes to fixing things.

So called 'bike enthusiast' motorcycle servicing business telling me ... don't worry about your bike, we'll treat it as if it were our own! Then returning it with a paint chip, and the work not being done. I know it hadn't been done because I am very untrusting (through many past experiences) and so marked all the associated nuts n bolts that would need to be removed for said work to be done! Literally none of the bolts had been removed and they tried to charge me £80 which was the agreed price. Needless to say ... no money changed hands and they were told to do one. I just hate robbing, lying, cheating, cowboys. I'm still debating whether or not to expose the crooks for what they are. I can/could do the work myself but just didn't have the time to do it and so ... got disappointed again.
The moral of this gripe is ... if you can ... do it yourself, if you can't... learn, because there's always someone out to fleece you.

oil seals are usually in standard sizes so any bearing store will have them. Is this the seal #34

Incidentally item #34 is sold by Suzuki in the US for $26, we get ripped off in the UK

A company called Brookfield make viscometers which use sapphire bearings (the newer technology may have changed) either way they do still service them. May be worth a call if you don't get sorted, there is an ex engineer who set up his own company to do it, if I come across his details I'll send them on. There may be others who service Brookfields who could also do the job.
