This sounds pretty awful Tim, hope they manage to sort things for your wife as quickly as possible.

Thanks for you good will messages.

Lynne has terminal cancer but it has been stable lately, We are warned to react to any sudden bleeding. But it wasn't that.

She is greedy lady, anything going she will get it. So for the last 30 years she has had multiple auto immune diseases of her liver, one side effect being oesphageal varacises. Basicaly the vains in her oesphagus errupt. these get a rubber band applied to close them off. The bleed on Friday was one going off, yesterday they attempted to repeat past procedues and errupted a gusher.

As a resulted she was intubated and placed on a ventilator in ICU, a ballon in the oesphagus is inflated to press on the varacies and hopefully stop the bleeding. The inside track from the hospital is that they have been successfull this morning and managed to halt the bleed. and they have withdrawn the sedation. It was scary yesterday when she appeared to wake up in ICU and went into panic with all the tubes down her throat. I am waiting for the call from the surgeons but hopefully she has had a very close call. They were prepping me yesterday that if they could not stop the bleed, nature would be left to take its course.

I am fortunate the ICU manager is a neighbour and Lynnes sister formerly was a nurse on the unit so lots of contacts enabled me to bypass the visitor rules. So got to spend time with her. So a big virtual hug for the NHS.

I did 50 miles on the bike this morning trying to empty my head. It didn't work and I had tears for the hour. My next ride will be smiles.

God thats awful. I can't begin to imagine the emotional turmoil you're going through. As mentioned above, whenever I feel down, I just remind myself that other people are going through far worse.
