Bin men who fail to turn up. This was Friday but we had a lot of cardboard for collection as it was recycling week. Perhaps it was because it was raining (?) but by the time we had collected the rental van and we were ready to head up to Shropshire (about 5pm) we ended up taking all the bins back in as they'd not turned up. Thanks to the rain the box full of now soggy cardboard weighed a LOT more than it did when I put it out. At least the box stayed in one piece I guess.

Wonder if they'll turn up tomorrow instead?

While I was out my neighbours have come in to my garden, cut the tops off my conifers and dumped them in my garden. So trespassing, criminal damage and fly tipping. My first thought was to go bang on their door but I'm trying to stay calm and think about this rationally.

That is plain aggressive!
I would calm right down and approach them later stating that you are not an unreasonable person, and had they asked you to reduce the height of the trees you would have considered their request. So if they would take this more civilised way of communicating in the future you would appreciate it. All said with a quiet menace in your voice!! Quieter is scarier!

In England (if you gave permission) for someone to trim shrubs/trees on a shared boundary, they have to leave the trimmings on your property (unless agreed otherwise). Some weird law we have, not sure Scotland is the same or not.

there some good reading in this thread, but not sure if Scotland has a same/similar law.

http://www.problemneighbours.co.uk/p...ion-guide.html

The law states that any branches cut off belong to the person on whose land the tree originally grew, so you should ask your neighbour if they want them back, or if they are happy for you to dispose of them.
Do not just throw trimmings back over the boundary - this could constitute 'fly tipping'. Ask your neighbour whether they would like any trimmings back.
Equally any fruit on trees, even if they are growing on branches which overhang your property, still belongs to your neighbour. You are therefore stealing if you pick these for yourself without your neighbours' permission.

That makes some sense, as in the firewood and fruit is yours.

However, I couldn't help but notice that the website is www.problemneighbours so probably appropriate!

I've been out riding all day! It kinda ruined my day coming home to this.

I had my tea and calmed down
I went and spoke to the old lady. She said her son came round and did it because there was no answer so they didn't know if I was still living there

I told her that just because I wasn't in, that didn't give them the right to come on my property and chop the tops off the conifers.

I told her I'd appreciate it if they picked up the pile of cuttings they left as they didn't have my permission. She said she would talk to her son...

If they don't pick them up I'll be launching them in to their garden
