A metre is defined as equal to the distance travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299 792 458 of a second. Useful to know, for someone anyway.

I've seen the film footage of that, and heard the guy talk about it. When he stepped off the platform he thought that he just hung there as there was no sensation of falling or wind noise.(Non or little air he was up so high). He figured he was falling when he tumbled around to see the balloon that he was carried up on shooting upwards faster than he expected. BRAVE MAN!

He also broke the sound barrier without a vehicle. Wonder if his ears popped. Anyway, here's some more:
