Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
This is the biggest scam ever, ****ing insurers. So I've sorted the hire car mess, me signing unread did dodge their dirty trick however the next scam is they will not allow me claim for the damage to my car if I use my own solicitor for the personal injury/physio aspect. I must claim both through their legal company which is where the paralegal sausage machine comes in I guess, I asked if I'll get a qualified solicitor they said they couldn't guarantee it, I asked the charge they said 'we don;t work like that', when pressed they said they can't tell me the fees it's all settled by the other side.
Wish I'd just sailed along in ignorance now, but now I know I don't want to be part of their inflation scam.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Car damage and injury are separate legal claims.
One is an insured loss, claim is through your insurance (assuming fully comp) minus excess. The other is a non-insured loss for the excess and personal injury. Mention having a chat to the financial ombudsman you might find it's suddenly ok for you to have your own solicitor. I'd be registering a complaint with them regardless. Which company is this you're dealing with? Sent from an S20 using Tapatalk with that kin cr4p blocked

My insurer said don't talk to the third party insurer, solicitor said just ring them and don't incriminate yourself (not that you can really) however their independent assessor might not be so independent... Quote:
"Yes, our service provider is Enterprise they do the repairs, injury claim and will give you a hire car" "I'll just go get my own hire car thanks... now for the repairs" "You should use ours" "Oh, how much is it?" "I can't tell you that" "Then I can't make an informed decision can I" "well you don't know how long you'll have it" "just give me a day rate" "No it doesn't work like that we can only tell you the price when you know how long you will have the car" "Ok, one month? How much is one month with a ford focus?" "It doesn't work like that sir" "You've just asked me what I need for how long and I've just told you" " Can I speak to a manager?" "erm I'll see if I can find one round the call centre 'hold for 20 minutes', ...No there is just me" "get one to ring me back"

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
My last off was quite similar, it was e-Bike back then, asking me just after I got out of the hospital, which of 3 cars did I want as a 'free hire' while they 'processed' my claim, I told them I wanted another bike but no, I had to have a 'Car', this went round in circles for 5 mins till I asked them if they supply the L Plates for the car or do I have to buy them myself and send them the Invoice to add to my claim..... then followed by No, I do NOT have a full car licence, needless to say the insistence I take a car at that point went away.
The other side dragged it out, on and on and on, then suddenly settled (24h after I submitted over £500 in taxi's to my insurance company to pass on to the car drivers one). |

If you have legal cover you would expect them to deal with any legal claims through their solicitor, and you would expect your insurance company will deal with the other party's insurance company. Last edited by svenrico; 22-12-20 at 12:49 AM. |

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I talked to my daughter who specialises in motor insurance law about this. She says the main issue with credit hire is people do not understand when taking out credit hire, they are accepting the risk that if found at fault they can end up with the bill. Similarly if the 3rd parties insurer dispute costs etc.
When my brothers Audi was pronged he was offered a clio which he rejected demanding a like for like equivalent. The next thing a brand new range rover Westminster is on his drive for 2 months whilst his audi was repaired. Just think of the cost to him had his claim gone tits up.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
2 gripes from me today.
Alarms, the wife gave me a dig in the ribs about 2am to say the alarm on the garden room was going off. I couldn't hear anyything but reset it remotely via google. about 3am the same painful dig. this time I can hear the alarm send a reset command and still going off. So off down the garden path. and . It is not my alarm but somebody up the road with the same siren. So got out my phone to see if the first was mine and checked sms. and to gripe 2 I have a doctors appointment for 8:30 this morning and they resheduled it to christmas eve by SMS. I do not live on a phone If a neighbouurs alarm had not triggered me into checking my messages I would never have known of the change. I have been fasting, ****ed in a jar. at least I can now have a brew/toast

Engineer can’t even start looking at my car until 1st week of jan , it was going to be over £10k before I even know what’s what . My car is 15 years old and worth about the day rate (they’d be better not hiring a car on my behalf and gifting me a brand new focus at the rate they were going) . I went to a regular car hire and got a focus for 3 weeks for £407 total, you can all thank me when you get your premiums .
