Moving slightly away from the moral high ground, is there not data protection issues with the video being supplied to the press with no numberplate blanking and then put on the internet for all to see?

If I wanted a video or photo of one of your speeding offences Im pretty sure they wouldnt just give it to me.

True, but I'm just saying it's okay to ask questions.

He was also wearing a strap effectively binding him to me, so should he of suddenly wanted to jump, he couldn't of fallen anywhere.

The point is, I only gave you limited information in the initial post. Everyone here is forming an opinion on the case in the media based on limited information.
I "bit" because you quoted me initially, perhaps it was I who got you to bite

Well no, I just didn't want to come across as Mr Judgmental.

Anyway, ditto my above reply to Lozzo, I agree we don't know him really, but I think it's okay to question the safety of what he is doing and his riding ability.... and his regard for his son's safety.

He actually says he went faster because it started to rain. Would you do that with someone on the back? (rhetorical) His actions were foolish, the fact that he got caught doesn't make him any more of a tool than if he'd told me about it in a pub somewhere. I wouldn't be impressed.

I've done 110 with a pillion on the SV before. There's a time and a place for everything. I wouldn't have done it in the wet, on a busy road or if the pillion wasn't comfortable doing it though.

I'll bet that there's not one rider on here who hasn't done something daft on a bike in their time. I'm a fairly sensible rider yet still manage 3 figure speeds when I shouldn't.

So we are all agreed that he is a knobber for
a) getting caught
b) admitting dangerous driving
c) claiming his busa will do 220mph
?

With regards the video;

The operator probably uses the same laser we have at our unit, it has an output to connect to the video recording system and TV for the operator to use. We use them either handheld or tripod mounted, there's a red-dot sight on the laser that is checked for accuracy each time the laser is taken out and again when it's returned after a tour of duty.

As the bike went past, the laser pans right as the operator tries to get a view of the number plate. This give the best reflection to get a reading off. He pressed the button to get a reading but got the Error 3 message. This, as others have quoted, basically means the laser was shaking or moving too much and it's inbuilt systems refused to give a speed. He then pressed the button again and got the -122mph at 324.3 meters, the minus sign obviously meaning the target going away from the laser. I don't know what the "Timeout" message means though, I'll ask today.

We are told in the instruction manual for the unit that the Laser takes 0.2 seconds to send out the laser, read the reflection and calculate the speed.

As for my opinion? Couldn't give a monkeys really. Seen worse.

Pete.

I asked one of the camera van operators about the "Timeout" displayed on the video.

That message appears when the system has recorded the targets speed and is a reminder to the operator to take their finger off the trigger. It does not mean there is a problem or malfunction.

Knowing how twisted the sense of humour is from some of you guys, I'm surprised the display doesn't say 'Gotcha'!

When i was 6-7 i was on the back of my dads FZR1000 Exup.

I was so light he forgot he had me and went up to 140, then realised I was on the back when i tapped him and shouted faster faster faster daddy...

So nope, at 14, not bad at all. Depends on the up-bringing. I was brought up round motor racing, most are not so would have a very different opinion to me.

And no, my old man wasn't wreckless or dangerous. And still isn't.
