If you were to part ex that bike and they noticed the seat (& it's value) they will absolutely take it off before selling to the next customer. I'm not saying it's right, but that's how it goes - and I do see the shops side to some extent, some people are really anal about bikes being standard or unmodified (insurance?) it might actually work against their sale. Not to mention, I'm afraid ,seats probably don't add too much to the purchase value imagine someone shopping for an SV (that doesn't know about the SV Pilesyndrome) 'I want to spend £5000', filter results to £5k... they never see the £5500 bike with the fancy seat or if they do happen to glance it they may not notice the seat and think "that shop's so expensive I can get an SV for £500 less 10 miles down the road".
Don't know bout cheap vodka, beer is strong enough for me ;but there seems to be some confusion over the seat. What seat, what value ? My seat is just the original seat and cover with a gel insert added, nobody could tell any difference just looking at it - the dealer would have no reason to take it off !

Does it raise the seat height? Dunno. Pretty much any bike you buy (other than a cruiser which has other comfort issues) will have a taller seat than the SV (AL7 onwards).
Isn't the Bagster seat the one with the stitching that lets water in ? The specialist seat upholsterer I know says they should have stuck to making tank covers ! Might 'look' comfy but is it ? There are also complaints about the cover being slippery and sloping towards the tank in the comments on the other site.
Think I might take the plunge and go for a full monty comfy upgrade by the seat upholsterer and ,if needed , fit Lust lowering links with the corresponding front fork adjustments. Apparently you can have the 25mm lowering kit without any need to shorten the side stand ,it is only the 40mm lowering option that requires the side stand shortening -according to my dealer who says he has done a lot of them (probably on the V Strom I would think )
So you might have to put up with me a bit longer after all

Haven't sold it anyway. Started looking at other bikes and haven't found one I really want in my price range. They are all around £10,000 now which is more than I would want to pay for a bike - and then you start looking at the usual modifications I like to make such as fender extender, rear hugger, engine bungs or crash bars, luggage rack ,radiator guard, Scottoiler (at least swap over from old bike ),probably mirror extenders, tank pad - and then selling these sort of extras taken off the old bike. Quite a bit of hassle and expensive swapping bikes isn't it really !

Really! You can apply for tax to start next month 2 days before. I did that on the DVLA website on March 30 for start in April. I was given the choice of two start dates, April 1st or March 1st, any earlier and you don't get that option.

Is this the same specialist seat upholsterer that sold you a gel seat insert which made no difference to your comfort?

Maybe you need a better upholsterer?
