Starter Rotor Clutch
Hi All.
On Friday I had the dreaded whirr of the starter but the engine did not turn over. After several failed attempts at bump starting the bike I tried the starter again and it worked. I have read many threads that relate to this issue. I guess it is a sign that the clutch on my bikes strarter rotor is on it's way out. Does anybody have a picture of the special tool that is needed to remove the alternator rotor or any idea if a DIY tool can be made up to remove it? Any thoughts/ideas? Thank you Tim. |

Re: Starter Rotor Clutch
I brought the right size "bolt" from a local nut and bolt shop, only cost £5 which is alot cheaper then the suzuki one
Check the bolts havn't come loose on the starter motor, it could just be case of the teeth missin the cog, then i'd take it off and check theres no teeth missing from the clutch itself then open up the flywheel |

Re: Starter Rotor Clutch
No it wont, i've tried them, theres not enough room around the flywheel to get the legs in
If you can't get hold of the bolt, give me a shout and i'll lend you mine |

Re: Starter Rotor Clutch
The Rotor removal tool is a Bolt. M20 x 1.5 mm pitch, and a 32mm open endded spanner...
The silverish bolt (pictured in the Jaws of the spanner) is the rotor holding bolt, undo this take it out then insert the Rotor removal Bolt. you can buy the bolt for £3.90 from a fastners shop. before you do this , I'd take out the startmotor and check the brushes or the teeth to make sure that all is well before rotor removal. hth's

Re: Starter Rotor Clutch
Thanks for the pics guys.
I think I see how this works, the rotor bolt is smaller than M20 and screws into the end of the crank, the removal bolt screws into the hub of the rotor and pushes against the end of the crank so pulling the rotor off of the crank. Is this correct? Thanks Tim. |
