I'm a bit dim, but nice! What the smeg is an emulator? someone replied to my question about the fork and mentioned them!

I'm not sure how much knowledge of suspension you have, but I'll assume you're familiar with the concept of damping.

SV forks have a very crude method of acheiving damping, by the use of damping rods. This is essentially a tube with holes that sits in the bottom of the fork leg. As the fork extends and compresses, oil is forced though these holes, creating the damping that slows the fork motion. It does the job, but has it's drawbacks (which I can go into if you wish).

A cartrage emulator (see above) is placed into the fork leg, and controls damping (specifically low speed compression damping) with the use of a valve instead of a simple hole, improving the suspension.

The biggest difference you'd notice with the use of emulators is it reduces front end dive under breaking.

Damping rod forks are notorious for being both too harsh and too easy to bottom. This is the nature of damping rod fixed orifice forks. Until now, all you could do is change spring rate, oil viscosity and damping hole size. The best available was a serious compromise.

The Gold Valve Cartridge Emulator is another one of the outstanding inventions from Race Tech’s Paul Thede. Simply put; Emulators make damping rod forks perform like well-tuned cartridge forks. Emulators are tunable valves that sit on top of the damping rods and are held in place with the main springs. This makes them both simple to install and completely tunable for all conditions and rider preferences.

Track tests consistently produce lap times that are 1 or more seconds a lap faster while Cruisers and Gold Wing owners rave at the increased control and ride quality.

Was just browsing this post and this is one of my biggest gripes with the SV's standard suspension setup. You get a fair amount of diving under braking and it bottoms out on the smallest of pot holes. Seems that this could be a very good option for me too. Cheers fella's.
