Splitting the cases
Got a spare engine, and out of curiousity and to see whats damaged and whats salveagable I want to get it stripped down.
How do you go about getting the clutch and primary drive off? Do you have to use a fancy locking tool and puller to avoid damaging the clutch basket?

Nah, the clutch just unbolts. You do need a rotor puller for the other side though.

Hmm. I think I've usually done it in gear, to be honest I can't remember though! But that could be tricky with a loose engine. But then, I took the clutch out of the rusty engine with it loose. Hmm. You could build a strappy grabby thing like in the haynes manual but I've never needed it, I just can't quite think why not just now.

get some old steel clutch plates and weld handle to it,make tool
 taking it off is easy with impact gun,torquing it back is when you need tool. rotor puller is only special tool you need to take cases apart. |

All I know it the rotor is a pain and I got the garage to do it. The first dealer I tried didnt even have the tool

Oi I'm not that much of a butcher!
The only thing thats been hit with a hammer so far is the valve cover, i even used a soft-faced one! On a more serious note, would anybody dispose of a snap-on van and a body for me? My impact gun STILL isnt working right
