Default Bus lane bonanza!

From January 5 motorcyclists get to use London red route bus lanes already used by cyclists and taxis and controlled by Transport for London. It means a total of 180 miles of bus lanes in the capital will be open to motorcyclists.

Bring on riding on the red route on tomorrow's commute to work!

Yes excellent news for bikers for a change eh?

Fortunately my route to work has been one of those on trial hence for the last 3yrs or so i've been lucky enough to enjoy the fun of the bus lane.

Fun such as...

Jiggling for space between the moody taxi drivers and dopey bus drivers
The fun of avoiding all the oil and diesel dropped by said buses and taxis
The ever fun avoiding the numpty pedestrians who just step out cos in their peripheral vision ( i assume thats what they use tho it could be a poor mans version of my very own Spidey Sense) they dont see a big red bus
And as the weather gets milder the tw@s who got out their cars and got on their peds.

Ah the bus lane... on of life's simple pleasures

Saying all that at least none of us will ever see another dreaded bus lane fine

Now come on Boris...get sensible and ban all the taxis from bus lanes too, after all they aint buses and they are only really for overpaid city boys/girls and MPs to use

Remember to take it easy folks. You know everyone will be watching us. It will only take one bad accident and people will demand it gets pulled.

I heard its a trial for 18 months..guess they will review it after that..and then probably charge us for the priviledge.

Same for me.

However, at the end of my commute I have an annoying 100 yard bit of
bus lane which wasn't part of the trial. I look forward to using it
legally for the first time.

Mind you, I didn't ride my bike today, nor am I planning on riding
it tomorrow. Not a great fan of icy roads.

I'm kinda scared that I may enter bus lanes outside of London, I technically am not sure where the London borough ends and where non-London borough begins,

Doesn't help that my neighbour is in a non-London borough and I am (we had the option).

If I start off in a London borough and am commuting to central London, technically my route should be classed as all London?

May have to google map this one

It worse the other way round using them on bikes for a couple of years and then getting in cars! (infact the urge to overtake traffic like you would on a bike is worrying too)
