peli cases
I'm looking into the idea of creating a custom case for my photography gear that I can keep in the car and choose my loadout when I leave the car..... (to save buying yet another lowepro that will fit all my gear, which would also mean always carrying ALL my gear)
So!... I recall in typical org fashion, someone mentioning a cheaper alternative either unbranded or comparable at least (possibly YC but I might be mistaken, hence asking the wider audience) And does anyone have any neat tips and such for cutting foam shapes and such. thanks org

Re: peli cases
Sounds like a question for my kayaking kids, I'll ask them!
(PS Jon looked into how to cut the foam quite carefully when he got his SLR something to do with de-laminating it so will find that out too) |

Re: peli cases
I think people use hot wires to cut the foam. However the pelicase comes with pluck able foam to make your own shapes

Re: peli cases
I made plywood templates when I've done it before for housing machine tools, sandwiched it between two pieces then compressed with G clamps to almost nothing then cut it with a sharp knife, but electric bread knives work well too.

Re: peli cases
Maplins do a pelicase style thing. We have a fair few of them in our workplace. They are actually made by pelicase but by their china division so are a bit more budget but I can't honestly say we have had no issues with any of them we have had and they stand up to hard abuse. Ie 20kg of loose metalwork with no padding in subzero temps.
Maplins usually have a sale on every now and then on these too so keep your eye out. The pluck and pull and egg cartoon foam comes with them also.
