Machining of the lower yoke eccentric inserts has started...

The bearings for the swingarm are on order, but it would appear that something called "christmas" is slowing their delivery. ****ing liberty, don't these people know I'm on a mission from God?

I've decided to revisit the petrol tank - the steel fuel cell welded into the back of the OEM tank weighs an absolute ton as it's made from 3mm sheet. I reckon if I were to make an aluminium fuel cell that were to hide under a fibreglass tank shell I could save 3 or 4 kg's of weight.

So I've bought a cheap 2nd hand tank which I'll strip and cut down and use to get a splash mould made and then a fibre glass tank cover made from that.

I can then fabricate a relatively simple aluminium sheet fuel cell to go under the cover and also support the seat, summat like this....

...but a bit neater, hopefully...

Started a new job just before christmas which has kept me pretty damm busy, so not as much progress made as I'd have liked. But anywho, this doesn't stop me spending money on some billet Brembo CNC's lovelyness...

The mould's been made of the petrol tank and a fibre glass tank cover has been made as well...

Loads of space underneath to fit the fuel cell in...

The current tank/fuel cell/subframe weighs a lardy 8.7kg...

...and the firbreglass cover, which is made from thicker CSM than it really needs to be, weighs 1.5kg.

So if I can get the aluminium fuel cell/subframe to weigh less than 3kg I've saved ~4kg and it will have been worth it. Fabrication starts next weekend.

The fuel tank is going to be made from aluminium, 5083 T0, in 1.6mm and 3mm thickness depending on whether it'll be load bearing or not.

I think you might have got your wires crossed there....

The current tank is steel, and heavy, the new tank - which will actually be a fuel cell under the fibre glass cover - will be made from from aluminium and will consequently be an awful lot lighter....
