A spam text.

i read something a little while ago, where someone said that whenever they get a spam text they signed them up to random things for text alerts.

I got one today, so decided to do the same. They'll now get up to date information on the global financial markets, stock exchange (all movements on major companies & currencies) and John Lewis updates on everything.

Basically anything to do with work. I really must get my **** together and get a new job.
Thinking of retraining as a plumber or sparky. Just need to figure out how.
Anyhow, back to smile of the day.
It is Friday after all.
What happened to something like a 5 year apprenticeship under the supervision of a qualified tradesman and technical qualifications obtained by a day release course at technical college ,or is there some sort of 'crash course' you can do nowadays ?! I don't know, but I would be interested to know for my son's sake. You used to have to be employed by a company to start with in order to train in things like plumbing or electrical work. Good luck anyway, keep us informed.

We have one guy at work who has been an electrician's mate for years. Lots of experience in different areas who is now doing an adult apprenticeship. 1 day a week at college and not terrible wages.

And we have another guy who has no experience, is about the same age of ~30 and who only started with the company to do an apprenticeship. He is doing a normal 4 year apprenticeship and is earning under £6 an hour. He specifically agreed to this before starting and wouldn't have got the job otherwise. (we were looking for normal apprentices at the time)

Most people couldn't afford to be on apprentice wages at that age.

Our schedulers managed to allow all the temps to be off on holiday(after cancelling our holidays) so I'm here on my own today and it's absolute bliss.

But £6 an hour is less than the minimum wage required by law !

The law doesn't apply to apprentices

No, I've had a look and it appears becoming a spark's pretty impossible unless you live in a tent and get free Dominos to live off like Darren. It's like the magic circle. The electrician's mate/magicians assistant route looks the best chance but they look few & far between.

Water lego it is.

The electrician I use was a science teacher and he must have learned the trade somehow in later life. I can't think he would have served as an apprentice for several years before setting up on his own.
