There have been a fair few instances of the K3s spitting conrods out. I have no idea as to the actual detail of what causes these failures but I've heard of quite a lot of occurrences compared to very few on curvy or later pointy.

Yup. I'm a K3 owner and I'd go for the K7. Its cheaper, has more realistic mileage (1500 is just too low - sounds more like its been abandoned) and as SK says, some body parts are specific to K3s and therefore hard to find. But the K3 does look better

Plus you'll be getting a 4 year newer bike for LESS money! It's a no brainer if they're both in good nick.

I would go for the newer one, 4500 miles is nothing. I race a K3 and have never had any bother with the engine.

I don't think I've ever read anything about the K3 having a weak engine, or a big-end bearing problem. No more so than previous SVs, and I don't recall reading anything about this kind of problem being "fixed" on K4+.
Perhaps we've seen more K3s break because of big-end problems... but they have been on the road longer than K4+. Touch wood... my K3 hasn't had any big-end problems, and I only know of a few Pointies that have - and they were all due to lack of oil. |
