Some bikes are affected more than others when i had my hornet a few years ago i fitted an end can and was ok but after fitting a k&n it wouldnt pull me out of bed. Im not sure about an sv it depends if the fuel injection system is capable of altering to the increased airflow itself which im not sure it can.

They are notably 'raspier' actually Its not MASSIVE, but it is very noticeable at WOT!!

i put a k&n on my 02 svs and yes it did sound noticably different. The only other mod on the bike is an ART exhaust. Well, the bike lost a little low end torque, then right at 6,000 rpm, it felt like the bike tried to shut off and come back on, to 7,000rpm, then pulled quite a bit harder to 10,000. In all, yes there was a performance gain without dynoing the bike, but from 6,000 to 7000rpm, you think the bike is going to explode or throw you off, very bad. I guess it needs to be jetted and mapped if you have an upgraded exhaust
