Thinking of buying a tomtom rider system.


Are they any good and does anyone know where I can get a cheap one as I don't really want to pay 500 notes for one!



Also, can you run an mp3 player through them?

Sorry i wasnt being helpful. My girlfriend has a TT for the car, and i must say its very good. However, i have in built satnav, and use a map/Nose. They are very good, but shop around as the price varies a lot. £369 being the cheapest i believe. As for running MP3's etc, i take it you mean thorugh the bluetooth connection? Sat nav, Mp3, too much to take you concentration away imho.

On a serious note a bike magazine this month had some feature on them, ride or the like

"He who thinks he ought to be obeyed" has just purchased one from Comet for £279.99 -ex display model (last one in the shop). Usual price £299.99.

It come with excellent recommendations from members of the Long Distance Riders forum he uses.

Well I've just got me phone, bluetooth GPS, and TomTom... works just fine. I get lost all the time to, its now a god send as it means I can find my way home once I am lost.

Got mine for £300ish from Comet.

Had it on the GN125 and a CG125 - now fitted and sitting on my SV awaiting my next test......

Is not bad at all.

All audio is done via Bluetooth, so it comes with a bluetooth dongle - comes with 2 options, either a "normal" wired handsfree like set up - mic inline on the cable - earbug for the ear - 2.5mm 3-pole jackplug. Also comes with earpiece/mic designed to velcro inside your lid.

Personally I ditched the Tom Tom Bluetooth dongle and have used various others, finally settling on a Jabra BT325 which is designed to be plugged into an MP3 player via the headphone socket - so doesn't give you any controls.

You pair your phone with the Tom Tom - you can even upload your phonebook from the phone to the Tom Tom. You then pair your Headset with the Tom Tom too.

This set up allows me to listen to MP3's (My player has an inline remote control that I clip to my T-shirt ar the neck - allows me to skip/do volume stuff on the move (well stopped at lights etc really). If an instruction is needed from the Tom Tom it fades out the music, tells me what to do the fades the music back in - it cant pause the track but is fine.

If a phone call comes in I can accept or reject from the Tom Tom screen.

I usually clip the BT325 on the strap of my lid, so id just below my mouth.

I make a point of not making/taking calls while moving, so not sure how good the conversation quality is.

The only fitting in the box that is relevent is the one that has you unbolt the front brake, replace the bolts with longer allen bolts and re-attache the origina bracket, but now ith the Tom Tom fixin point in the loop too. -

Works well except..... maybe its only Suzuki - and maybe its only my bike - but the bracket that holds/clamps the brake lever doesnt quite match the Tom Tom bracket. I think that the clamp part is not quite half and half on the SV, so that the bolts are not parallel when put in.

This means that you cannot get the Tom Tom bracket fastened top and bottom because the bolts end up binding in the Tom Tom bracket.

The answer I found was to take a needle-file to the tom tom bracket and elongate the bolt-holes from round to more oval.
