halal butcher. i have previously used the one round the corner from me for spices and stuff but today i took a gamble and got some chicken breast from them. well i can say that i will NEVER buy chicken from chain stores again. the quality was top notch and the price was half that of supermarket stinking pre packed stuff, its not just the breast which is huge but it also contains the mini fillet as well. the shrinkage was what you would expect from real chicken and about 1/4 if your lucky unlike the water injected rubbish you get in chain stores which shrinks to fek all.

as for the moral of halal meats then all i can say is that i'm not a religious person so dont care two feks if the animal has had a prayer said over it before slaughter or how its slaughtered.

forgot to ask if they sell mutton but will ask next time i'm in

The chicken from my local butcher is the same. The supermarket stuff is pumped full of water to make it look big, but as soon as you start to cook it, all the water ****es out.

So instead of fry the chicken it's boiled and shrunk, rather than browning in the pan and improving the flavour of your dish.

Same goes for his pork pies, crispy case and pink not grey meat.

Halal slaughter method isn't very humane. Whether you eat meat or not, you really should care about how it's slaughtered.

i have tried the local butcher for chicken and while its the same quality as the halal stuff its double the price. i boil my chicken with stock cubes then use the stock to make gravy. i would use my local butcher all the time if i could afford to but his prices are stupid.

when it comes down to it any slaughtering is not humane. the rearing and well being before slaughter is more important.

how was livestock slaughtered before the 'bolt'.. most people that rave on about how animals are dispatched have never actually done it let alone gutted and skinned an animal. its a weird feeling wringing a chickens neck.

Does it matter? If you want to eat meat, you have to kill the animal. All that really counts is that you don't cause any more suffering than you have to. How is what happened before relevant?

Just back from the Oxford Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. Tootling around Oxford with 400 odd like minded individuals. You could say it holds the traffic up but in Oxford the council have years more experience at doing that.

Had a great day out with a friend round the Yorkshire dales and the North Pennines. Been ages since I've been out for a full day on the Street as the wife stayed home. Hawes was very crowded so he took us to the Wensleydale creamery for our tea / pee stop and I came home with very nice cheese.
