Re: SVBMX Build Thread
Yeah its a bit out there! Its quite an aggressive riding position but i was trying to replicate that of a velodrome track bike. Despite this its actually a really nice ride. The bamboo acts as a natural dampening on those bumpy back roads.
I've used it a fair few times to go to work on (17 mile round trip) and never a problem Quote:
Then every single joint is wrapped with... 2 layers of fibre glass/resin 6 layers of carbon tow/resin A carbon powder/resin paste (sanded/smoothed) Then finally a carbon weave/resin finish. Each layer also had to be wrapped tight with the wrong side of electrical tape (doesn't stick to the resin) to hold it together whilst the resin set. It was a long and tedious process and i wont be doing it again!! Ha!

Re: SVBMX Build Thread
So the fairing is fully mounted and pretty much ready to be powder coated I'm still yet to acquire a nice mesh to fill the void below the rad but unfortunately as I'm a bit poor at the mo its gonna have to wait till payday (a couple weeks away) till i can make the purchase. Same goes for having the powder coating done
Anyway, here's a few update photos along with a couple of photoshopped pics to show with colour. You'll also notice I've ditched the fender for fork guards. I'm not 100% sold on these myself but i figured why not give em a try as its not gonna cost a lot more to have em powder coated along side the rest. I'll also be making a U-shaped bar to support/cable tie the front brake hose to where it bridges over the tyre. Also powder coated to match.

Nice work bud, I actually like those fork guards, they go well with the overall look. What's the cost for the powder coating?

Re: SVBMX Build Thread (99 SV650)
Thanks. I've been quoted £30. Seems cheap but I've had similarly sized items powder coated with special order colour by the same place before, so the quote sounds about right.

I'm actually thinking of tweaking the design a little before its coated. I might remove the small flaps either side of the rad. I think it will give a cleaner look. Instead I'll prob add a removable infill panel to hide the gap around the edge of the rad and above to hide where I've fixed the fairing to the rad mount. I'll sketch something up to show my thinking.

Re: SVBMX Build Thread
I've been abit slack lately but finally managed to bolt on my custom fairing for its first test ride yesterday, and a very successful first ride too Fairing was solid, no shake, no noise or noticeable drag. Very happy. Now to get it coated.
I did also document the first ride on video so may post that too if i get round to sorting it out! (Excuse the poor quality screen grab)
