Hi guys,
What kind of revs do you guys use when bimbling around through towns/villages? I commute through some small 30mph villages and usually find myself around the 3000rpm mark but this does not give me much 'go' when accelerating back upto 60. I think I'm riding the bike like a car (if that makes sense?) but I dont want to be revving the nuts off the bike and cause it any damage as it would be held at a constant rpm. |

USually about 5,000 - that is a little below the power band. I find 3,000 makes the engine labour too much.
5k used to be fractionally below power band, but the gap is getting greater - maybe I should have changed the plugs and cleaned the air filter sometime in the last 14,000 miles! |

If I'm just tickling along behind traffic keeping my safe distance and not in a rush, I usually ride around at approx 3k rpm (possibly 5th at 30mph but maybe 4th, never really thought about it until now).
Before acellerating, just give it a kick down a peg & off you go ![]() |

I was sitting about 3 - 3.5k but was advised to modify to 6 - 6.5k, noticed a major difference in the control I have over the bike and handling, espcially around corners.
I know it uses more fuel but I didnt buy the bike for economy |

3.5-4.5k, gives me enough go but doesnt labour it much if any, the trick is to spot any point you need power or any dangers in advanve and adjust accordingly (slow down or drop a gear). This by no means makes ame a great or advanced rider, i just try to implement it. However i would also give credance to the argument of riding higher in the rev range and the benefits therein. Personal preference really, although i wouldnt venture into the redline much and i wouldnt go below 3k much...

Agreed, I can see the point of keeping the revs just below the power (unforseen hazards etc). But my pocket just can't justify it. I just leave myself plenty of room & rely on dropping it down a peg (or 2) if I need to get away from anything.
