Tread Direction

Because i only ride on track days now, I'm thinking about swapping the tyres over to increase their life span. I know this isn't new, but i don't actually know anyone who has done this.

For those i've confused, Basically i've worn the right hand side of the tyre but the left side still looks in good shape.

Am I being a tight **** and kidding myself with this 'false' economy?

Surely tread design is only for rain clearing? So if you're in the dry, go for it.

Being a monkey I've fitted the front wheel on my ZX6R in the wrong way round before... Seemed fine....

I do this on rears & I haven't noticed any difference either way - I figure that the carcass construction is similar forwards & backward on a rear since it has to take accelleration & decelleration forces

I haven't done it on fronts, but that's mostly because I get through a rear much quicker than a front & buying a front for every 2-3 rears is less painful. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the carcass construction on a front might not be so happy going backwards since front tyres are designed only to take braking forces

Swopping the rear tyre around is a regular event at Lydden given the nature of the track, especially Chessons which can destroy the right side in just a morning. The trick is not to leave it to late otherwise it feels a bit weird. I've done it with road tyres and slicks, but as previous post I've never tried swopping a front around.

What tyres do you use??? not all have a bi-directional carcass ...

I use supercorsas and you can safely (carcass wise) turn them.

Bearing in mind I buy partworns (most of the time the RHS is more fried than the LHS) I ALWAYS use ‘turned’ tyres

After carcass, the second consideration is the tread direction, the supercorsas work surprisingly well in the wet even turned

So in summery, if you are using supercorsas (rennsports or racetechs) then turn away
