Mercedes-Benz Track Day
So I got invited to a Mercedes-Benz World track day on Wednesday for work
Anyone ever been? The details are vague but they told me to make sure I brought my driving license along, so I assume we'll get to do some driving... Hoping for a few laps in some kind of high end AMG variant |

its not rele a big track just a few corner and a straight, just would be still fun to take an AMG round

Re: Mercedes-Benz Track Day
Well, was epic!
Morning was usual business networking as usual but the afternoon was all driving Started off on their purpose built Off-Road course in a top spec ML series, learning to use low ratio gearbox/difflocks etc. Some of the hills we went up/down were scary steep! Lots of driving through water, big fack off bumps/holes/etc and generally all round fun. Got it on 2 wheels through a V shaped section Then jumped into an E63 AMG (540bhp). Started off on a small taster track, to get used to the feel etc. Then done 0-100-0 sprints, with cone avoidance thrown in (surprisingly agile for such a big car), in the dry and special wet strip. Then my favourite part, a few laps round their skid pan. Started off with all safety electronics on, then half off, then all off. All off much much easier to drift than with all the gubbins needless to say! Managed about 1 & 1/2 laps before spinning out. Then onto the main track (which is small) but still great fun. Then a tour round the main building, which apparently holds every merc model ever made, including the F1's. Most impressive was one of an old F1 car, with individual part (inc nuts and bolts) suspended from steel lines. Great day out! |

Sounds like a Larf!
I loved the skid pan training I did. Not in a posh car, just a Sierra Saphire on slicks with added water and oil. Figure 8's and never going in a straight line aaaaaaallllllllll afternoon. Happy days... Pete |

Re: Mercedes-Benz Track Day
As fun as it was, the equivilent on a bike would be much better though.
i.e sheer acceleration and braking was epic, but adrenaline levels were higher on a bike. Except the skid pan. Always wanted to go on one of those, and thrash a car that wasnt mine Next time I'll invite Reeder. |
