Service schedule?
Right…. Looking at my bike I can see that its not had a service for a good while and its just hit 5k.
I am hoping to do this myself but want to be careful. I have a basic idea of what need to be done but want to be sure… Can anyone give me a quick idiots guide on servicing the Sv? Cheers Dave |

Re: Service question.
Or get a Haynes manual - every service and what needs to be done is detailed in it.
If you get stuck folk on here are always helpful.

Re: Service question.
if your bike has just got to 5k and it's a curvy i'd give it a really good service as it's at least 6-7 years old. If you only do the oil, plugs and brake fluid it's a good start.

In order of priority Oil + Filter Brake Refurb (bleed through and clean out calipers)(Front and Back) Spark Plugs Fork Oil + coolant The oil is the main one as the engine is the one thing you don't want to go bang. And if it's had 1 oil change in 6 years then the oil that's in there is going to be like water anyway. Oil idiots give is crush washer, filter, new oil. I'd say brakes next to give them a stronger feel but tbh from here down on the list is just things to make it feel better as they go off with time as well as useage. Brakes is new fluild, brake cleaner, (Copper Grease on pin and Red rubber grease around pistons for easy removal next time but is only optional) and the brake pipe tool. Spark Plugs next should be okay. Spark Plugs + Socket. Fork Oil + Coolant aren't too urgent and if you got a hydrometer just test coolant for anti freeze and top up if neccesarry. Fork oil is more difficult as draining requires removal due to no drain on the bottom but it's not really neccsarry just get the oil changed Otherwise everything else goes off with mileage and get some miles on the thing.
