Re: What have you tinkered with today?
A bit of each I think. Look at the grey dull bolts holding the mudguard. They're now shiny and bright.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Spent a bit more time in garage reassembling the VFR. Forks, brakes and wheel all now fitted. However had nightmare with the upper fairing. Loads of wires to connect while balancing the thing. Rubber gromits kept popping out and disappearing on the garage floor. Then I find one indicator and the two dipped headlights don't work so off again. Indicator bulb was blown but headlight bulbs were fine. Fuses checked. Fine. Headlight relay? Disconnected relay and sprayed contact cleaner on terminals. Tried bulb and it still didn't work. tried same bulb on high beam and now that doesn't work. Argh! To cut a long story short, all now working but I need to buy two headlight bulbs. No idea what the problem was but the relay was the chief suspect.

What have you tinkered with today?
Two new H7 bulbs bought and fitted. Also a new indicator bulb which for some reason is a capless type and cost over £4.
I bought xenon bulbs and you can see the extra brightness. Sorted out a small coolant leak on the header tank. Sprayed ACF50 everywhere and then start installing the RH fairing lower.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Lol. Well I've found that the next few weeks still have a bad affect on the bike. There's still loads of salt on the roads. The full fairing doesn't help as it traps the salt too

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Had the carbs apart again on the 2nd VF1000 over the weekend. It's now running properly, but won't idle for long.
Suspect thats a fuel pump issue though, that i should fix tomorrow. MOT time in any case! Need to get it moved for bike no6.... |

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Gave the bike a full wash and fitted my new hugger and fender extender, fitted the top box arms and found the free plate didn't fit so had to buy one, then removed top box arms, adjusted the angle of the front brake lever and stuck all the pads on the rad guard. Rad guard and crash bungs to fit tomorrow, then I need to go through my SV spares and shift some of my duplicate parts, oh and ride the thing!

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Fitted a 2nd hand Hyperpro shock to the road SV over the weekend. It was a bit of a sod to fit as it's wider than stock so my usual trick of just lifting the rear wheel and inserting it in the space between the linkage and swingarm didn't work terribly well. Eventually got it in after reducing the shock length to about the same as an OE shock which is fine for now anyway.
The lower linkage got greased but I think the bearing and inner surface for the bottom shock mount is beyond saving and will need to be replaced. Initial feelings are good, definitely an improvement over the 35,000 mile OE shock, and a nice present as the bike comes up on 70,000 miles on the clocks which is I think only about 60,000 on the chassis, and a complete lottery on the motor, she's a bit of a bitza but works rather nicely.
