Default Video formats for head cams and the like

I know quite a few of you use head cams etc and a few of you are, when compared to me anyway, keen editors and uploaders so after a bit of help and advice really....

For reasons unknown to me, I can't seem to be able to compare the differences on my mac in vlc or iMovie for that matter, between the recordings from my cam.

I have tried 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 120fps.

So I'm after your opinions on which is better, a lower res and higher fps or vice versa?

I have a drift ghost s, battery life is about equal on either setting so not too fussed about that.

Mainly need to see where the difference would be more noticeable, YouTube as an example? I don't edit or upload much apart from when anything "interesting" happens so slow mo is a possibility and I'm guessing the higher frame rate would be better for that but overall?

Thanks peeps

All I know is macs can be a pita as far as compatibility with stuff goes.
As for best results on youtube I only ever use 720p. No need for higher unless you or peeps watching have a full hd screen to watch on. Any less is a waste of the cameras abilities.
Slow mo vid needs to be 720 min but as high an fps as possible for best results. 480 can work and usually guves better fps on some cameras.
Best thing is go try out all options. Work with what you like best.

As I understand it, the human eye can't distinguish fps differences of more than 25fps, so the extra fps would only benefit slow motion. I haven't tried the Gopro on the wife's Mac yet so can't compare.

Cheers guys, will stick to 1080 60fps for now then for commuting etc

If i do anything which may be better in slow mo I'll switch it up to higher fps!

YouTube ruins any quality anyway, 720p is fine for YouTube, I record everything at 1080p, 60fps, I can always downscale the size from the master but not up.

Higher res is much more important than fps

Who can't watch youtube in full HD? Apart from mobiles, pretty much anything will be HD spec

Not my monitor. 1680 x 1050 at the mo. Not HD.

Your TV will run at 50fps and your computer monitor could be anywhere from 50-75fps. So anything above that is a complete waste unless, as previously said, you're going to slow it down.

Sometimes using 50fps is better than 60fps as the conversion from 60 to 50 on playback isn't all that smooth.

1080p 50fps is the best quality you get from TV broadcasts in the UK.

My laptop screen only does 720 hd. Not full 1080p. You can play the 1080p but will only see 720p at max. Same as alot of tvs etc.
